At a glance
Godot MCP gives an assistant the parts of the Godot workflow that need the engine: open the editor, run the project, capture the debug output, and create or change scenes and nodes. The agent can then fix a script and run again without you switching windows.
It finds Godot on the usual install paths; set GODOT_PATH if yours is elsewhere.

Our check: We ran this exact config on 26 Oct 2026: it started and answered with 14 tools.
What's in the pod: its tools
We found 14 tools when we started it on 26 Oct 2026. 5 only read. The rest can change things, so keep your app's "ask before each tool call" setting on for them.

ChatGPT only connects to remote servers by URL. This one runs on your computer, so use Claude, Cursor or VS Code.
Add "env": { "GODOT_PATH": "/path/to/godot" } if Godot is not in a standard location.

What it can touch
It can read
- Godot projects on your computer, their scenes and files
- Console output from games it starts
It can change
- Creates and edits .tscn scene files and resources
- Starts and stops the Godot editor and your game
Safer setup: Keep the project in git so you can see and undo every scene change the agent makes.
Before you start
- Godot 4 installed
- Node.js 18 or newer
If it does not work
- Godot cannot be found
- Set GODOT_PATH to the Godot executable itself, not the folder it sits in.
- Invalid project path
- Point it at the folder that holds project.godot.
- The agent cannot see errors from the game
- Start the game with run_project, then ask for get_debug_output. Games started by hand are not captured.

Questions
Which Godot version does it need?
Godot 4. The id tools only matter for 4.4 and later.
Can it write GDScript?
It has no script tool of its own. Your coding agent writes .gd files directly and uses this server to run the game and read the errors.
Is it free?
Yes, MIT licensed.
