At a glance
This open source Python server answers market questions with public data: TradingView's screener and technical ratings, Yahoo Finance prices, and optional news sentiment. The model can scan an exchange for top movers or volume breakouts, run a multi-timeframe read on a symbol, and backtest one of nine simple strategies, including a walk-forward test that warns when a strategy only fits the past.
It is an independent project, not made by TradingView, and it never signs in to a TradingView account. The author also sells a hosted copy called TradingMCP; the self-hosted server here is free under the MIT licence. Nothing it says is financial advice.

Our check: We ran this exact config on 27 Oct 2026: it started and answered with 37 tools. The project is Python only: the real package is tradingview-mcp-server on PyPI. The author warns that copies under other accounts add an npm package that installs malware, so avoid any npm version.
What's in the pod: its tools
We found 37 tools when we started it on 27 Oct 2026. Every one of them only reads, so nothing changes unless you act on what it finds.

Grouped and described by us. The README on GitHub lists the inputs each tool takes.
How clearly it describes its tools to your assistant
- Tools with a description
- 37 of 37
- Say if they change things
- 37 of 37
- Context it takes, at least
- ~6,000 tokens
Every tool says whether it only reads or can change things, so a client can ask before the risky ones. The tool list is large: switch off the tools you do not use if your client allows it.
From the tool list it sent us. The token figure counts names, descriptions and input names; the full schemas your client loads add more.

ChatGPT only connects to remote servers by URL. This one runs on your computer, so use Claude, Cursor or VS Code.
Add "MARKETAUX_API_TOKEN" in env to switch on financial_news and market_sentiment. Claude Desktop on a Mac often needs the full path to uvx.
Remote option
The author's paid hosted version (TradingMCP), with sign-in and monthly limits. It serves the same tools plus charts drawn in the chat.

Settings
Names are exactly as the project spells them. Required ones are marked.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
MARKETAUX_API_TOKENEnvironment variable | A free Marketaux key that switches on the news and sentiment tools. The free tier allows 100 requests a day, and results are cached for four hours. |
--from tradingview-mcp-serverCommand line flag · required | Tells uvx which PyPI package holds the tradingview-mcp command. |
What it can touch
It can read
- Public market data from TradingView's screener and Yahoo Finance
- News from Marketaux, if you add a key
It can change
Safer setup: It only reads public data and has no access to any brokerage or TradingView account, so it cannot place trades.
Before you start
- uv, with Python 3.10 to 3.13 (3.14 is not supported yet)
- Optional: a free Marketaux key for the news and sentiment tools
If it does not work
- Requests time out on the first launch on Windows
- Python 3.14 is not supported yet. Install Python 3.13 or older and point uvx at it with --python 3.13.
- The news tools say they are not configured
- Add MARKETAUX_API_TOKEN in env. Every other tool works without it.
- Claude Desktop says uvx was not found
- Use the full path to uvx, such as /Users/you/.local/bin/uvx, because desktop apps do not see your shell PATH.
- An analysis returns empty values
- TradingView sometimes returns nothing for bursts of requests. The server retries and caches, but ask for fewer symbols at once if it keeps happening.

Questions
Is it made by TradingView?
No. It is an independent project that uses public data. TradingView launched its own MCP server in 2026 for paid TradingView plans.
Do I need a TradingView account?
No. It never signs in to TradingView or controls the TradingView app.
Is the hosted TradingMCP the same thing?
It is the author's paid hosted copy of the same tools. The server listed here is free to run yourself under the MIT licence.
Why are there tools for the Egyptian Exchange?
The author added a set of EGX tools alongside the global ones. Leave them unused if you do not trade there.
Can I trust its signals?
Treat them as a starting point for your own research. The project says plainly that nothing it produces is financial advice.
