Frontend Design skill for Claude
Reviewed by Sophie Filer · Updated 27 Oct 2026
Steers Claude away from the same-again AI look toward pages with a point of view.
Ask any model for a landing page and you tend to get the same one: the same palette, the same hero, the same three cards. This skill is a set of design instructions meant to break that habit.
It asks Claude to start from the subject itself, choose type on purpose, treat borders and labels as information rather than decoration, keep motion rare, and write real copy instead of filler. It also asks for a short self-critique before calling the work done.
When Claude reaches for it
- Building a new page, app screen or component from scratch
- Restyling an existing interface that feels templated
What is in the pod
- Principles for picking a visual direction rooted in the product
- Advice on type scale, line length and the tell-tale defaults to avoid
- A plan, build and critique routine to run before handing work back
Planting it
Claude Code
- Add the Anthropic skills marketplace once.
- Install the example-skills plugin, which includes frontend-design.
- Start a new session. Claude loads the skill on its own when a task matches.
/plugin marketplace add anthropics/skills
/plugin install example-skills@anthropic-agent-skillsClaude apps (web, desktop, mobile)
- On a paid plan, open Settings and find the Skills section.
- Switch on frontend-design from Anthropic's examples, or upload the folder as a zip.
By hand (Claude Code)
- Download the skill folder from GitHub.
- Put it in ~/.claude/skills/ for every project, or .claude/skills/ inside one project.
~/.claude/skills/frontend-design/SKILL.mdWhat it needs
- Nothing to install beyond the skill itself
Notes from the pea patch
- Give it a real brief: who the page is for, one thing they should do, and any brand colours you must keep. It does far better with constraints.
- Pair it with screenshots of the result. Design advice lands better when Claude can see what it built.
